Giiguy Gamambi Preschool Workshops

September-November 2023 | Nambucca, NSW, Australia

We ran a series of 6 workshops at the Giiguy Gamambi Preschool in Nambucca focusing on waste reduction and correct waste disposal. The workshops were highly engaging, providing opportunity for the preschoolers and staff to learn through hands activities and build upon their understanding of the waste management (an age appropriate version) each week.

Workshops included:

  • Composting to reduce organic waste heading to landfill

  • Repurposed Insect Hotel

  • Upcycled Scarecrow

  • Microgreen caterpillars using recycled containers

  • Worm farming to reduce kitchen waste

  • Upcycled Self Watering Planter Boxes

  • "The compost workshop was a fun learning experience for the children. It has encouraged them to think about what can be composted and working together to sort our food scraps while eating. We now use two scrap bowls at meal times to sort our compost."

    -Melissa, Director at Giiguy Gamambi

  • "I liked putting on the head of the scarecrow""

    -Remy, 5 years

  • "I helped make compost"

    - Hunter, 6 years

Outputs and Outcomes

  • 6 workshops

  • 25 preschoolers, 5 staff, 1 parent

  • 1 partnership

  • Greater understanding about different ways to use, sort, process or treat items rather than sending them to landfill.
