It is important to take photos of what conditions are like on the day at your site.

1. Take photos from the same spot each time!

Match your frame with the original ones. Look for a key feature in the landscape upstream, downstream and across.

Tip : Refer to previous photos taken at your site - we need to replicate them! You can find these at the BR Data Portal.

2. Where to aim your camera

For upstream and downstream photos, aim your camera to the centre of the stream to take your photo.

For across stream photos, take the photograph of the view directly across from where you sample. Include the river and opposite bank in the view.

Tip : If your site is located at a bridge, pick a spot around the centre of the bridge or just next to it to take your upstream and downstream photographs.
